Often times being cooped up in the house for bad weather or even worse having to go to work driving in dangerous conditions, can tend to have a significant negative effect on our stress level and discomfort in our bodies. We often carry our stress and tension in our neck and shoulders which can often be corrected with even an minor adjustment or session. However, even a few things can be done at home or in the office to release some of this tension in between massage appointments or when unable to make a regularly scheduled session.
1. Start by placing a tennis ball in a tube sock. While holding on to the sock with one hand place the ball on the affected tense area while leaning against a hard surface i.e. a wall and massage the area accordingly.
2. Take 3 five minute walks throughout the day to loosen joints and muscles to prevent additional tightness or soreness.
3. Raise arms in the air for 5 second increments. Repeat this 3 times.
4. Place hand on top of head and gently pull towards the opposite direction.
5. Take 5 deep breaths focusing attention on areas of discomfort. Deep breathing raises awareness on tense areas and allows one to focus on improving it specifically.
